These days, a credit card has become almost a necessity. The only thing is, now that I have cancelled my American Express credit card, I’ve lost access to so many things. Some of the basic things I took for granted were lost to me, even the simple act of buying a plane ticket to Florida. Not that many years ago, people preferred cash to credit, but not now.

It’s now normal almost everywhere in the world to use your Mastercard, Visa or American Express to pay for goods or services you may not even need with money they do not have. Although American Express credit cards are a really convenient way to make a purchase - get it now and worry about it tomorrow - it does come at a heavy cost. Credit card debt is mounting everywhere. One of the largest problems facing America today is that of credit card debt.

Credit Card

After considering this I decide to get rid of my American Express credit card at least for the present. Parting with your money that you don’t see leaving you is easy and makes you spend more. I was using my card for just about everything, but I soon noticed the debts were mounting. Panic kicked in when I found I could no longer pay the debt.

It took a debt consultancy specialist to finally get me back into a position where I actually started to pay my debt off. The whole situation was a nightmare. The hardship was worth it though because I am now debt free and my American Express credit card is no more. Many people would think me unfair about blaming a credit card but they need to understand something about people first.

If you pay for goods or services in cash, you actually see that money coming out of your pocket. Like I said before you are not as conscious of the cost when you use your credit card. I would just keep spending, not realizing until all the money was gone. It’s difficult getting yourself into a debt problem if you don’t have an American Express credit card to start with.
